The stabilising bar on our capsule bases cannot be removed - the base must be used with the stabilising bar. It is a requirement of the safety standard that our capsule and base are manufactured to and ensures the base is as secure as possible in the event of a crash.
As our capsule bases can be installed using either Isofix or a seat belt, there are very few vehicles that they won’t fit in securely. If it is the case that you're having trouble getting the Isofix connectors on your base to reach the lower anchors in your vehicle, you may want to look at installing your base using the seat belt instead.
This is just as safe as installing using Isofix.
Just make sure that your base has less than 2.5cm of sideways movement when it’s installed.
We’re happy to give you any tips over the phone or, if you’re in Auckland, you’re welcome to come to us and we can install your capsule and base for you. We can then check whether we can use the Isofix connectors or, alternatively, show you how to install it with the seatbelt and make sure it’s in safely and securely.
It may also be helpful to know that it’s not unusual to install a child restraint with a seat belt, even if the vehicle has the lower anchors to use the Isofix connectors. This can be the case if the seat belt ensures a more secure installation – for a number of reasons.
If you’d like us to call you to talk you through the installation, or make an appointment for you to come to us, please email us on hello@edwardsandcobaby.com
